Music Festivals

 photo adventures.png

So with my journey once again to the Bonnaroo Music Festival quickly approaching, I have gotten the itch to see what other festivals I could maybe volunteer at this summer as well. Really, there is no other way to go but than to volunteer at these events, you get to experience them for FREE and, come on. That rocks. a lot. SO what if you have to put in 18 hours of work over 4 days, am I right? I AM FUCKING RIGHT.

So, after wasting a few hours on the internet, here are some of my options for this summer:

Lollapalooza: Beginning of August. Line-up this year looks fricken awesome, they are accepting volunteers, and the drive is less than 15 hours (which sounds like a lot, but if I convinced someone to go with me, not bad AT ALL). more importantly though, line up. Let's talk line-up. Mumford and Sons. Vampire Weekend. Phoenix. Postal Service. Major Lazer. Matt and Kim. Charles Bradley. Shovels and Rope.  and more.
Now, the downside to this festival is it is in a big city, so no camping :( Hotels can be pretty pricey, so it depends on if anyone went with me, and then Id have to think about if I knew anyone in the area, etc.

Forecastle Music Festival: Had never heard of this one, but it takes place mid July in Louisville, KY. Great location, once again a city though so hotels and all that jazz. Volunteering spots are totally open.  The line up includes: Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Black Keys, Flaming Lips, Matt and Kim, Shovels and Ropes, Avett Brothers, Robert Plant, and more. Drive wouldn't be bad.  Hotel prices are more reasonable than in Chicago, so, yeah.

Overall, I just think I need to go ahead and sign up for them. Just do it. I'm usually one to just be about stuff, and then try and convince others to join me.

Otherwise,  I have a few more thoughts on summer plans up my sleeves, but its all in the air now, all up in the air.

Photo An Hour: A June Sunday

Photo an hour. I was skeptical if this would work for me, but I will say, I plan on doing one a month. Why? Because it taught me a lot about how I use my time, for starters. I mean, i am sure it depends on the day, but looking at my photos I realized my life revolves around two things: Food, and Junk (dump, thrift). Am I okay with this? Somewhat. Do I want to do a Photo an hour that starts at noon and goes until 10 or so at night? I think that would be a good contrast. But, Overall I know I want more outside in my photos... and less food? No who am I kidding... the food is staying.

8:45 am: French Press Coffee to start the day. Oh Coffee, I love thee so much.

9:45 am: And, now the food starts. I love sitting on the porch in the morning eating breakfast, or drinking coffee. I don't have a big porch, and have a single chair on it, but man, in the morning with the sun shinning, there is nary a mosquito, and living in the valley, that is something to be cherished. (Nigel also was super jealous at my attention to anything other than him at this point, so he became a model...)

10:45am: As I am about to head back inside to get clothed and such for the day, I realized I spotted the first Fireweed of the season. Man, I have such a love/hate relationship with spotting Fireweed...I am sure any Alaskan understands.

11:45am: On my way to town, I always make a routine stop at the transfer sites. Though there was quite a bit of large furniture, someone has also cleaned out Christmas supplies leaving boxes upon boxes of pretty color laying around

12:45pm: SOLSTICE FAIR....so of everything I take a picture of what? The Hot Licks Ice Cream Truck. Later in the day ( not pictured) I def. got some Earl Grey Ice Cream. new favorite flavor? Easily.

1:45pm: Still at the solstice fair, Nick and I discover that we are sporting AWESOME blue Slush Puppie tongues. Keepin' it Classy 24/7.

2:45pm: Next excursion! On our way to Value Village, there isn't much interesting in the car... But I had on a sweet yellow sundress, and I always want to carry a worn leather purse.

3:45pm: Oh man. Value Village makes me so happy. I now can live the dream of being big bird. ALL THE TIME.

4:45pm: Scrambling to get to work, I set up A make shift bed for my sister under my own! BUNK BEDS! I had found two very large furniture cushions earlier at the transfer site, and they fit perfectly in the lower bunk! I love when that happens...

...and that is where it ends. From this point on I worked for 5 hours, and then watched True Blood. Coolest lifestyle ever, right?

Adventures: Bonnaroo Music Festival

Campy Attributes Adventures

As 2012 embraces me, I am starting to get a little antsy. I know I have a trip back to South Carolina this summer, which is wonderful, as I will see most of the people who make me happiest in the world for my friends wedding. And those I don't see there, I will see this fall when Nick and I Head back to Fairbanks to visit (all tentatively planned).  But at this very moment, it isn't enough. My mom is heading down to Mexico for 10 days this week, and my sister is going on a Caribbean cruise in April...with missing the Winter Hawaii trip this year, I am craving something warm.

Knowing I have class and work that really cant be missed (oh, and that I am poor....really, really poor...) I have thought through my options. And what did I come up with? I am seriously considering (and seriously means like....60% a this moment) volunteering at Bonnaroo again this year!

The line-up will be announced next week, so I think I am going to go ahead and put in my application as soon as I can. For those who don't know, I volunteered in the past for Bonnaroo, and have gone once WITHOUT volunteering. Both times = Awesome. Now, of course, having amazing friends with me both times is what made it awesome, for sure, but who knows...maybe I can convince someone to be reckless with me for 5-6 days again this summer.

I mean, look at these photos and tell me your interest isn't piqued! Here are a few from 2008...

And then again in 2009...

5-6 days of camping, falling asleep and walking up in the grass near whatever band you wanna listen to, making fun of all the ridiculous hipsters/hippies, amazing music, great comedians, SUN, graffiti, and happiness....and, if you volunteer, all you have to do is work a few shifts, pay a deposit, and enjoy yourself.

So who's in with me, eh?!
